How Do You Brew Your Coffee?
Everyone has their own ritual when it comes to brewing up their favorite cup of coffee. With the multitude of options that all get you to the hot cup of java, a coffee lover is given more choices than ever. While each of the different brewing styles all result in a hot cup of coffee, each has their own pluses and minuses that relate to time, taste and availability. So…how do I brew my coffee when I want to sit down and sip on some smooth greatness?
Bodum Chambord Coffee Press
When I want to sit down and sip my life away, I pull out my simple 8 cup Bodum Chambord Coffee Press. Not only is it extremely easy to use, but it brews an almost perfect cup of coffee. I even cheat a little bit by using an electric kettle to heat my filtered water. By the end of 10 minutes, I am enjoying my hot cup of coffee with minimal cleanup.
The process is simple.

Put one heaping table spoon of coarse ground coffee (do not use pre-ground as fine grains will clog the filter) per 1 cup water into the bottom of the Bodum Chambord Coffee Press (same holds true for any other press). Once your water is heated to a boil, you pour the water into the press, stir it with a plastic or wooden spoon, place on the cap (w/out pushing down the press) and wait about 4 – 5 minutes for the brewing process to really take hold.

After your short waiting period is over, press the rod down slowly to push the grains to the bottom of the press. Once that is complete…pour yourself a nice, hot cup of perfectly brewed coffee.


And there you have it! The way I prefer to brew my coffee. The Bodum Chambord Coffee Press.

For the record, I also use auto drip and other brewing methods. This is just the way I prefer to get the job done!

Lately I’ve been borrowing a buddy’s Bodum at the office and pressing some coffee in the afternoon… Fantastic cup of Joe! It took a bit of experimenting to get the coffee-to-water ratio correct (thanks for your help, Rob!), but once I did I was impressed.
Now I just need to get my own press…
I use a smaller 4 cup version that has a plastic shell at my desk. Perfect for just me.
I use the same coffee press. I wouldn’t use anything else except my stove top Italian espresso pot every now and then.
I love my French Press, but it’s mainly for my coffee tastings and weekends. Weekdays, it’s more along the lines of my keurig or drip machine, just for convenience.
Got Bodum cups but brewing happens in my Krups espresso maker. Off-topic, but always with biologically grown and fair-trade grind incidentally.
Love using a french press for coffee, but have found a better solution. It’s called the AeroPress brewer. I got it from http://www.coffeebeancorral.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=AEROPRESS
The french press required a different grind than I use for espresso, so it takes extra time to get it right. Also, it’s really a hassle to clean the french press. The Aeropress is a plunger type of device and is self cleaning. Put in the coffee. Pour in the hot water. Stir. Let it sit for 4 minutes or so. Push the pluger. Drink the coffee. Dismantle the device and push the plunger the rest of the way over a trash can and it’s clean after a quick rinse.
Since the device is plastic and compact, I take it when I travel to insure that I always have great coffee. I roast my own coffee daily as well. Does this qualify me as a coffee snob?
