Lisa Rotenberg from Rocket Fuel Coffee and I got to talking about our coffee obsession and came to the conclusion that I just had to try out some of her blends. Among the offerings of Rocket Fuel Coffee is even the famous Kopi Luwak (if you don’t know what that is…Google it…it is crazy!).

The information below is from RocketFuelCoffee.com where you can also purchase these roasts.
Black Label Queen Kong Nyeri AA
This is a really exquisite coffee! A large AA grade selection bean. The dry fragrance has a dark and complex sweetness, with suggestions of black cherry syrup (used to make your own soda pop), concord grape, with a bit of peppery spice. The cup has a strong winey, Syrah-like grape note to it, along with a lush fruited sweetness with hints of pear and strawberry at some roast levels. There are backnotes of Earl Gray tea, with it’s characteristic Bergamot citrus oil accent.
It’s a complex cup, and does not have the shrill citric notes of some Kenya lots, which might make it attractive to some who seek Kenya intensity without the screaming high brightness! If, on the other hand, you do like super bright espresso with intense plum/chocolate pudding sweetness. Try it!
Black Label EL SOCORRO
El Socorro y Anexos has been awarded the prestigious Presidential Award Cup of Excellence. Decidedly fruity and refined with delicate tropical fruit background notes. Complex, layered and smooth finish. Sophisticated coffee with considerable nuance.
Here is a quote from the winner of the 2009 Cup of Excellence, El Socorro
“After cupping samples from this year’s 23 winning farms we set our sights on the El Socorro not only for its overall excellence but because it embodies what we look for in a classic balanced Guatemala profile. Very clean in the cup, El Socorro features a refined acidity that brightens without dominating the complex aromas that begin with notes of almond and hazelnut, morphing to sweet earth and then caramel/chocolate in the finish, all delivered on a creamy, silken mouthfeel.”
As rare as they get in the coffee world, grower Juan Diego de la Cerda takes pride in this Guatemala El Socorro y Anexos – CoE #4. Process: Patio sun drying. Varietal: Maracaturra, a hybrid of Caturra.
A Rainforest Certified Organic coffee, fresh roasted medium to perfection, launching mid March 2010 at the Wine and Cheese Show, Toronto.
